Fish Bowl Socratic Seminar! 🐠
What’s a fish bowl socratic seminar?
It’s a time where many people speak and observe other thoughts and ideas. What’s discussed, depends what everyone would like to speak about. Although for the sake of this project, the main topic was our ideas on Farming vs Foraging. But why? Our class was tasked to have a socratic seminar discussing two opinions of our choice. One of them having to be about articles read in class, and the other being a random claim about anything. The goal for this activity was to make sure students had an understanding of what we’re learning as a class, and help one another understand the ideas, issues, and values reflected in a text through a group discussion format. |
My thoughts:
I didn’t like the idea of doing a socratic seminar, so I didn’t participate as much as others. Although depending on the people participating, the socratic seminar would be really quiet and awkward, or loud and thrilling. I tried to make an attempt to get my ideas out there, but I just didn’t have the courage to do so. If I were to do another socratic seminar, I would have probably end up not saying anything and just listen the whole time.

21st century skills:
Information • Thinking and Problem Solving • Self-directional Skills • Communication Skills
Post discussion, I would have to say that I used information, thinking and problem solving, and self-directional skills mainly because the post discussion assignment was research based. During the discussion, I believe I used communication, and interpersonal skills. The whole point of the seminar was to have a better understanding of what others wanted to make known and ensure that you get your point across.
