What were doing in class
When class starts Mr. Goring has us write in our journal. He gives us a prompt and gives us around ten minutes to write. He encourages us to write when outside of class because he doesn't want the journal to be something that the students have to do. The journal is meant to show the writer side of us. He wants us to use as much sensory detail as possible. Personally I don't enjoy having to write a page in the beginning of every class. It gets really tiring. Mr. Goring does give out some good prompts for the students to write though. Besides doing the journal, we work on literature a lot in this class. Mainly writing or understanding poems. If we get assigned to write a poem about a specific topic, Mr. Bill (The assistant teacher) helps Mr. Goring read and grade the students papers.

The project
Classmate interview project
The class was assigned to interview a random partner with ten questions that gave the interviewer enough information to write two pages. All of the partners were put in breakout rooms in zoom to ask the questions. This assignment was an ice breaker activity. We ask question about the person to really get to know them. My partner was Dayna Fronda. When we were both asking question and responding, I didn't know how much we had in common. I had my mother help me with the write up part. Mr. Goring didn't expect much from the final drafts, but he was really surprised on how my came up. I can't thank my mother enough for helping me write this outstanding biography.

What this skill represents
Communication Skills:
Students will communicate effectively with a variety of audiences for different purposes, using oral, written, and nonverbal communication. This includes creativity and arts-based expression. |
My Classmate interview project is an example of communication skills. We were assigned to take turns asking our assigned partner ten questions like an interview. Example question: How would your friends describe you? The questions being asked cannot be answered with one word. After the ten questions, we gather all the information from the questions and write a two paragraph biography about our partner. Finally we were to present our biography to the whole class and got graded on our public speaking.
